Dogtooth [Κυνόδοντας] (2009)

Director: Yorgos Lanthimos

Language: Greek

Surreal and exhausting, yet gorgeous to look at, Dogtooth is almost certainly not for everyone. I found it compelling, bleak, funny, upsetting, tense, and always interesting. The things that might put off some – the sense of interconnected vignettes rather than a strong plot or the deadpan delivery of the alternate reality in which the characters live, for example – were, for me, vital to its brilliance. To those undeterred, Dogtooth will deliver something special. A dark image in a frame of surpassing elegance.
