Catch-22 (1970)

Director: Mike Nicholls

Language: English

There are a whole bunch of reasons to watch Catch-22. For the sake of brevity and of actually being a bit useful I will go with this: If you want something mad, funny, crazy, unsettling, bizarre, and unconventional, then you might need Catch-22. An adaptation of Joseph Heller’s famous novel, the action centres on a group of american pilots in the Second World War. In doing so, Catch-22 draws you in to the insane labyrinth of their wartime experience. Sometimes visceral, sometimes side-splitting, sometimes troubling, Catch-22 is a satire of the masculine and heroic world of war. A stunning cast, an impressive set of locations, and a script that both honours and re-works the source material – joy.
